Building a Strong Foundation

At Scota Karate Academy, we understand that martial arts is a discipline that can’t be learned overnight. That’s why we place so much emphasis on establishing a strong foundation of skills and techniques in our youngest students. Our toddlers will begin by learning the proper stances and forms, and will then incorporate basic karate moves such as the straight punch, front lunge punch, front kick, roundhouse kick, and various blocks. The earlier students get these skills drilled into their muscle memory, the better off they’ll be throughout the rest of their martial arts journey!

Having Fun

Above all, students at Scota Karate Academy enjoy their training. We believe that in order to become amazing martial artists one day, students have to develop a love for the sport first! Instead of just using repetition, we teach our toddlers important techniques, stances, and moves through fun games and creative activities. As they laugh and get their energy out, they won’t even realize how much they’re learning!

Promotes an Active Healthy Lifestyle

Lack of childhood health is a growing issue all around the world, but is especially prevalent in the United States. One of the biggest challenges? Getting kids active. As they have greater access to technology, children are spending more and more time in front of a screen and less and less time participating in physical activities. If you’re encountering this issue in your child’s life, karate may just be the solution you’re seeking. Not only does martial arts reduce stress, but it provides benefits in one’s cardiovascular health, stamina, flexibility, strength, reflexes, and weight management.

Camaraderie

At Scota Karate Academy, we’re more than a karate school – we’re your home away from home. We want each and every one of our students to thrive, and we believe that this can only be accomplished if our students are given an environment that promotes growth. Our facility is clean, organized, and filled with a wide range of high-quality equipment. But more importantly, we are home to an incredible staff that is passionate about teaching martial arts to students of all ages and a student base that is dedicated, talented, and eager to welcome new students. When you join Scota Karate Academy, you are becoming a part of a family.

Scota Karate Academy Adult Karate

Self-Defense

Having thorough knowledge and experience in self-defense is essential to adult life. Not only will our training teach you how to avoid dangerous situations and provide you with the tools needed to protect yourself from potential attackers, but it will also give you a unique sense of confidence. Knowing that you can defend yourself if necessary will allow you to feel safer in your day-to-day life and will increase your independence.

Many people never step foot in a dojo because they are intimidated by the idea of learning self-defense. Not only is this fear holding you back from reaching your highest potential, but is potentially putting your life in danger.

Fitness

Be honest. How often do you use that gym membership you bought for your last New Year’s resolution? If you want to get in shape, it’s time to ditch the treadmill and weights for something a little more exciting. More and more adults are making martial arts their new workout routine, and it’s no surprise why. Not only do weekly classes hold you accountable, but you’ll see results after training in martial arts for just a few weeks that you won’t see after months at the gym. Martial arts training has been shown to boost heart health, improve flexibility and coordination, lower cholesterol, tone muscles, quicken reflexes, and help with weight loss.

Scota Karate Academy Sparring

Advanced Sparring

Are you ready to take your Karate training up a notch? Our youth and adult classes are built for experienced martial artists who want to perfect their current skills and take up new challenges. In this course we focus on learning new sparring techniques, weapon training, and breaking more difficult boards.

Respect

Respect is the cornerstone of karate. By constantly maintaining this value, Scota Karate Academy has created a curriculum that fosters positive student-teacher relationships, achieves a high level of focus and productivity in class, and encourages students to reach their fullest potentials. In most martial arts settings, respect is simply viewed as students bowing to their sparring partners and using the proper terminology to refer to their instructor in class. While we obviously want our students to demonstrate these traditional forms of respect, we also believe that respect is so much more. At Scota Karate Academy, practicing respect means paying attention in class, encouraging your classmates, being aware of others’ safety while sparring, and practicing self-love even on your bad days.
